For applications in hazardous locations, Intrinsically Safe systems
provide a safe operating environment for personnel and equipment.
Intrinsic Safety (IS) is based on the principle of restricting
the electrical energy transmitted into a hazardous area, thereby
ensuring that any sparks or heated surfaces that may occur as
a result of electrical failures are insufficient to cause ignition.
The threat of an explosion is eliminated.
Positek Intrinsically Safe sensors can be used in hazardous
environments when connected to a the approve safety barriers.
Positek offers Intrinsically Safe sensors for the following
three hazard classifications:
- Certificate number Sira 00ATEX2076X and ATEX SIRA M064
- The IECEx Certificate Number: IECEx SIR 13.0154X
- The ambient temperature rating for T4 is extended
Intrinsically Safe Sensor Barriers
The X005 Galvanic Isolation Amplifier has been
designed specifically for use with Positek® X Series, E Series, and M Series Intrinsically
Safe position sensors. The G005 provides a
regulated and resistively limited +5V dc power supply
required by Positek® IS sensors, and it can be connected in
three or five wire modes. The G005 has an input power supply range of 12 to 30 volts dc, making it suitable for a wide range of
hazardous area applications. The output of the G005 is factory configured to either 0.5 to 9.5V or 4-20mA and has a bandwidth of 4.7kHz, making it ideal for servo control loops.
